Residents and staff at MHA Handsworth in Altrincham swapped their everyday routine for glitz, laughter, and celebration as the home hosted its first-ever ‘Glitz and Giggles’ Awards.

Inspired by MHA’s annual OSCARs ceremony, which recognises the achievements of staff and volunteers across the organisation, the team at MHA Handsworth decided to create their own light-hearted version to honour residents — with a focus on fun, humour, and community spirit.

The event was organised by activities coordinator Charlotte Fowke, who transformed the home into a vibrant awards venue complete with balloons, bunting, and a red carpet.

Alongside the 20th anniversary celebration, long serving staff were presented with awards

Residents and staff at MHA Waterside House in Wolverhampton came together to celebrate the home’s 20th anniversary with an indoor street party filled with food, drinks, and entertainment.

The care home, which opened its doors in 2005, transformed its café area into a festive venue for the occasion, complete with a hot and cold buffet and even a splash of Baileys, which proved popular among residents.

As part of the celebrations, four dedicated staff members were honoured with long service awards, recognising a combined 75 years of service.
The award recipients were Ermine Spencer, Kelly Edwards, and Kerrie Kenton—each marking 20 years—and Joy Sulley, who celebrated 15 years of service.

A young care assistant at MHA Glen Rosa in Ilkley is thriving in her first care role and is already planning her next career steps after finding her passion in supporting older people.

Chloe Payne, 20, joined MHA Glen Rosa in August 2024, and despite it being her first position in a care home, she says the knowledge and experience she has gained are “second to none.”

MHA Glen Rosa provides residential and residential dementia care for up to 47 residents, and Chloe quickly became an integral part of the friendly and supportive team.

Speaking as part of MHA’s 30 Under 30 initiative — which celebrates and highlights younger members of staff across the organisation — Chloe shared how she came to join the sector and why she finds her work so rewarding.
