As a Volunteer Escort your role is to provide support to older people who are care home residents (passengers), travelling on a minibus. You will escort people from the care home on to the minibus, and then take them into the location where they are attending their activity, and after the activity see them safely back into their home, at the agreed times.
What are the benefits of becoming a volunteer?
By becoming a volunteer minibus escort, you can make a positive difference in the lives of older people helping them to enjoy activities outside of the care home. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?
The time commitment varies depending on the needs of the MHA location you are matched with and your availability. Generally, MHA asks for a minimum of one hour per week for at least six months.
What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer?
You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will match you with an older person, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
