Care assistant at MHA Ryelands who joined aged 18 marks 30-year service

MHA Alexandra House has embraced the festive season with a creative and eco-friendly project: upcycling cardboard boxes to make a fireplace. The home, which provides residential and dementia care for 47 residents, wanted to bring some Christmas cheer, especially since they don't have an actual fireplace. Activity coordinator Amanda Gouldstone found inspiration online, particularly on Facebook, and came up with the idea to craft a fireplace using five boxes from continence pads.

The project took about 10 hours, with residents helping out during the process. Gouldstone shared that they are all very proud of the finished result, receiving positive feedback from residents. The next step is to enhance the fireplace with Christmas lights and stockings. Additionally, the home hopes to keep the fireplace up and use it for other celebrations throughout the year, promoting the message of upcycling.
