August 2025 — In July 1980, while the world was adjusting to a new decade, 17-year-old Ann Campbell was beginning her lifelong journey in care with Methodist Homes (MHA). Now, 45 years later, Ann (62) is celebrating a remarkable career milestone at MHA Bradbury Grange in Whitstable, where she serves as a senior carer.

Ann began her career at Cliff Dene in Tankerton, where she and many colleagues lived on-site, sleeping in their own rooms or flats. Late shifts often meant being on-call overnight, but as Ann recalls, “we often weren’t disturbed at all.” Much has changed since those early days — including the introduction of uniforms, which carers didn’t wear in the 1980s.

In 2010, Cliff Dene closed due to the building’s unsuitability, and Ann transitioned with the residents to MHA’s newly acquired Bradbury Grange on Canterbury Road. She’s remained there ever since, growing into her role as a senior carer and becoming the longest-serving employee at MHA.
