There were smiles all around at MHA Oak Manor as the Shefford care home was honoured with a Civic Award at the Shefford Town Council’s annual awards ceremony. The award recognises the home’s outstanding community spirit and efforts to build meaningful local connections.

Since 1990, the Civic Awards have celebrated individuals and groups dedicated to improving life in Shefford. MHA Oak Manor was praised for its commitment to reducing isolation and bringing generations together through initiatives like intergenerational school projects, dementia-friendly cafés, and inclusive public events.

One of the home’s standout contributions came during the pandemic, when it launched "Carols in the Car Park"—an uplifting, socially-distanced event that helped reconnect residents with the community. The event inspired the formation of the Shefford Community Choir, which continues to thrive.
