Methodist Homes (MHA) welcomed supporters to The Wilderness, a historic heritage garden in Croydon, for its third Coffee, Cake and Conversation event, offering guests an insight into the charity’s work and the importance of gifts in wills.

Following two previous successful supporter events, MHA continued the tradition with an informal afternoon at The Wilderness, a unique heritage garden located behind MHA Hall Grange care home.

Held in an outdoor classroom within the garden, the event gave guests the opportunity to learn about the history of The Wilderness and discover how the garden, alongside MHA’s wider work, makes a difference to older people today.

Guests heard from Lucy James, MHA’s gardening services manager, about the role of nature and gardening in supporting connection, participation and quality of life for older people.

They also learned how the garden is enjoyed by residents, volunteers and the wider community, before having the opportunity to explore the grounds themselves
