A Rotherham resident celebrated her 100th birthday in style after receiving an incredible 123 birthday cards — including a telegram from the King.

Kathleen Creasey, who has lived at MHA The Beeches for just over a year, marked her milestone birthday with a surprise garden party surrounded by family, friends, fellow residents and staff.

An appeal had been launched in the local community to see if Kathleen could receive 100 cards for her 100th birthday.

The response exceeded expectations, with Kathleen receiving 123 cards in total. It took her more than two hours to open them all.

Kathleen, who has two children, Iain and June, worked as a nurse during her earlier years.

Staff at MHA The Beeches decorated the garden for the celebrations, which featured a homemade birthday cake, buffet and cheeseboard — one of Kathleen’s personal favourites.
