Birthday celebrations at MHA Moorland House as resident celebrates 100th birthday

Resident at MHA Ty Gwyn launches book on being part of building Millennium Stadium

MHA Moorland House celebrated the 100th birthday of resident Joan Heatley with decorations, balloons, a birthday cake, and a gathering of staff, residents, and family members.

Joan, who has longstanding ties to Hathersage and moved into the care home in 2022, marked the occasion alongside her daughter Gill. She also received a congratulatory telegram from King Charles III and flowers from Sam Monaghan, chief executive of MHA.

According to administration manager Kirstie Thorsteinsson, staff arranged for Joan to have her hair done before the celebration, timed the event for lunchtime so fellow residents could join in singing “Happy Birthday,” and helped create a memorable atmosphere. Joan’s family, including her second daughter Pamela and her grandchildren, were also expected to travel from around the country for further celebrations over the weekend.
