There were joyous celebrations at a Workington care home as resident Sally Stephenson marked her 100th birthday surrounded by loved ones.

Sally, who lives at MHA Amathea in Workington, celebrated the milestone with close family, friends and fellow residents. She has been living at the home since January 2025.

Originally from Frizington, Sally worked as a seamstress in various factories during her career. She is a proud mother to two sons, Tony and Paul.

To mark the special occasion, the home decorated the lounge and laid on an impressive buffet for guests. In a touching tribute to Sally’s years as a seamstress, her family brought along a sewing machine-themed birthday cake.

The celebrations were made even more memorable when Sally received a congratulatory telegram from King Charles III, which her family said made her very proud.

Speaking after the event, her son Tony praised the staff at the home, which is operated by MHA and provides residential and dementia care for 40 residents.
