A resident at MHA The Homestead was overwhelmed with kindness after receiving more than 200 birthday cards to mark her 100th birthday.

Joan Haslam, who lives at the Carterton care home, celebrated her milestone birthday on 21 April. To mark the special occasion, the home launched an appeal to collect 100 birthday cards for Joan—but thanks to the generosity of the local community, she received an incredible total of 232.

The cards came from a wide range of well-wishers, including local nurseries and schools, fellow residents and staff, community members, and Joan’s own family.

Joan also received a special telegram from King Charles III, along with a card from Bletchley Park, where she worked during the Second World War.

She celebrated her birthday surrounded by her three children—David, John, and Trish—as well as grandchildren, with an intimate party held at the home. Staff decorated a lounge with banners and balloons and prepared a buffet for the occasion.
