MHA Briar Hill House opens doors to community and raises more than £460 during summer fayre

A centenarian celebration took place at MHA Alexandra House in Harwich as resident Olive Wheeler marked her 100th birthday, surrounded by her close family in an intimate and joy-filled gathering.

Born in Leicester in 1925, Olive has led a rich and active life. A passionate sportswoman in her youth, she played football for her school and later discovered a love for ballroom dancing. She spent part of her working life at a hosiery factory, making stockings – a profession she recalls with pride.

Now a resident at MHA Alexandra House, Olive moved to Harwich in January 2025 to be closer to her son. For her milestone birthday, the home’s tea bar was decorated with balloons and banners, and Olive received a telegram from King Charles III, as well as an abundance of flowers and gifts.
