A resident at MHA Handsworth in Altrincham has celebrated her 100th birthday with family, friends and fellow residents, revealing that the secret to a long life is “keeping busy”.

Dot Boardman, who has lived at the residential care home for two years, marked her milestone birthday with two celebrations, spending the afternoon with loved ones before joining fellow residents for more festivities.

Dot has enjoyed a life filled with adventure, travel and volunteering. Before moving to MHA Handsworth, she was a keen volunteer at major events, including the Commonwealth Games when they were held in Manchester.

Her dedication to volunteering also earned her an invitation to one of the summer parties at Buckingham Palace.
