Resident at MHA Handsworth flies over Switzerland and Sydney Harbour as dream of being pilot is achieved

A resident at MHA Lauriston in Hastings marked a remarkable milestone recently, celebrating 60 years of marriage with his beloved wife.

Alan Cole, who has been living at the care home since January 2025, celebrated his diamond wedding anniversary with wife Carol, surrounded by warmth, joy, and a few special surprises arranged by staff.

The couple, who married in 1965, have two sons, Simon and Daniel. Originally from Liverpool, Alan moved to Battle following his marriage and lived there for 50 years before relocating to MHA Lauriston.

To mark the occasion, the care home decorated one of its lounges with balloons and banners, and treated the couple to a homemade cake. Staff also arranged for Alan to surprise Carol with a bouquet of flowers.

Carol, who visits Alan every day, brought in their wedding photos and cards from loved ones to share with staff and residents. She was also invited to stay for a special lunch, with a table set just for the two of them to enjoy the day together.
