104-year-old resident at MHA Ryelands inspires area manager to go the extra mile

A 104-year-old resident of Scarborough has made an emotional return to the school where she began her teaching career more than eight decades ago.

Nora Gee, who stays at MHA Priceholme for respite care several times a year, recently revisited Northstead Community Primary School — just a short walk from the care home. The visit marked her first time back since completing her teacher training there in the early 1940s.

In 1940, as a trainee teacher in Leeds, Nora’s education was disrupted by the Second World War. When her training college was requisitioned for military use, she and her fellow students were relocated to Scarborough to finish their studies. Nora received her teaching certificate at Northstead Community Primary School — a moment she has cherished for over 80 years.

During a conversation with Ruth Gee, the chaplain at MHA Priceholme, Nora expressed a heartfelt desire to return to the school.
