It's incredible to hear firsthand accounts of VE Day from those who lived through it. The 80th anniversary this year provides a unique opportunity to reflect on the emotions and experiences of people like Betty and Tony, who were young during that historic time.

For Betty, the sense of relief and joy from the public is palpable, especially with the spontaneous street parties and the camaraderie that filled the air. Her memory of gathering with family for a local celebration, despite the less-than-ideal weather, shows how the event united people in a shared sense of happiness and hope.

Tony's account, with the joy and relief felt by people in Sheffield, is equally powerful. His experience of celebrating after serving in India adds a unique perspective to the broader VE Day celebration, as the end of the war sparked joy not only in the UK but across the world.

The fact that MHA Westbury Grange is hosting their own indoor street party is a lovely way for them to commemorate the 80th anniversary.
