Information for Executors and Solicitors
If you are administering an estate that includes a gift to MHA, thank you.
We understand that acting as an executor or advising on an estate can be a significant responsibility, and we aim to make this process as straightforward and supportive as possible.

We’re here to help
If you need any information or assistance, please get in touch with our charitable giving team.
We aim to respond promptly to all enquiries and to support the administration of estates in a clear, straightforward manner.
Our charity details
If you need to identify MHA within a will or estate, our details are:
Full name: Methodist Homes (MHA)
Registered charity number: 1083995 (England & Wales) / SC038911 (Scotland)
Registered address: Epworth House, Stuart Street, Derby, DE1 2EQ
If the wording in the will differs slightly, we are happy to help confirm whether the gift is intended for MHA.
What information we may need
The information we require will depend on the type of gift and the stage of estate administration.

In most cases, we would be grateful if you could let us know:
- Your contact details
- The full name and last known address of the deceased
- Their date of death
- Whether MHA has been left a specific sum, item, or share of the estate
- A copy of the will
- Any information as to why the gift was left

For residuary gifts (a share of the estate), we may also request:
- A copy of the grant of probate
- Estate accounts, when available
For pecuniary (fixed sum) gifts, we do not usually require detailed estate information.
We take a proportionate and practical approach and will only request what is necessary. If you would like to discuss what is required, please feel free to contact us.
Paying a legacy gift
Legacy gifts to MHA can be paid in the following ways
If you would like to make a bank transfer, you can request our BACS details by contacting our charitable giving team.
Made payable to Methodist Homes and sent to our Derby office (Legacies, MHA, Epworth House, Stuart Street, Derby, DE1 2EQ).
Inheritance Tax and charitable gifts
Gifts to UK-registered charities are exempt from Inheritance Tax.
In some cases, leaving 10% or more of an estate to charity can reduce the overall rate of tax applied to the remainder of the estate.
If you require guidance on tax matters, we recommend seeking independent legal or financial advice.
Thank you
We are very grateful for the care and attention you are giving to administering an estate, and for helping to ensure that the wishes of the person who made the gift are carried out.
We aim to handle every legacy with respect, sensitivity and efficiency.
