When and why palliative care may be needed?
Palliative care provides relief from symptoms, pain, and stress, and offers emotional and spiritual support to both the individual living with a life-limiting illness or condition and their loved ones. Palliative care can be arranged at any time after a terminal diagnosis has been given.
Your care, your choices
Encouraging open conversations helps us stay aware of anything particularly special, such as favourite pieces of music, how you would like to be cared for, and what plans you want to make. This includes:
- choices about medical care
- who you would want to make decisions for you if you’re unable to
- things that might brighten your day
- what religious care you may want and more.
Our chaplains can provide spiritual care for people of any faith or belief if requested and can often arrange for other faith leaders to visit if appropriate. The chaplain may be able to conduct the funeral at the family’s request so that you have the comfort of knowing that the service will be personal to your loved one and there will be a friendly face there that the family knows.
What happens next?
