Care homes are busy environments with a variety of activities happening every day.
We are looking for volunteers who can support homes in a flexible way picking up tasks as directed.
What are the activities that MHA offers for older people?
MHA offers a variety of events and activities for older people in its care homes. These include arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, chatting, basic admin, serving meals, delivering laundry to residents rooms and more - General volunteers can help with any duties and tasks that support the running of the home or for the benefit of residents.
What are the benefits of becoming a general volunteer?
By becoming an general volunteer, you can help older people to have fun and stay active. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
How much time do I need to commit as a general volunteer?
The time commitment varies depending on the needs of the MHA Care Home you volunteer in and your availability. Generally, MHA asks for a minimum of 2 hours per week for at least six months.
What kind of support will I receive as an general volunteer?
You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will put you in touch with the Care Home staff, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
