We're looking for a creative volunteer to support with our Knit and natter activity session running on Monday mornings between 11:00 and 12:00. You may be supporting an individual or you may be helping the activity leader setting up the space and supporting the group by providing refreshments.

If you can knit or crochet that would also be a bonus.

What are the benefits of becoming a volunteer?

By becoming an activities volunteer, you can help older people to have fun and stay active. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

The time commitment varies depending on the needs of the MHA location you are matched with and your availability. Generally, MHA asks for a minimum of one hour per week for at least six months.

What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer?

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will match you with an older person, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.

About you

  • Are aged 16 and over
  • Friendly with good communication skills
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of the needs of older people
  • Flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • A clear sense of personal boundaries and confidentiality
  • You'll have the ability to be supportive and non-judgemental
  • You'll be willing to engage with training and development.
