As an activities volunteer, you will run your own sessions with support from our colleagues. You can choose from a range of activities, such as arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, and more.

By volunteering as an activities volunteer, you will not only help older people to have fun and stay active, but also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.

What are the activities that MHA offers for older people? 

MHA offers a variety of events and activities for older people in its care homes, retirement living, and community groups. These include arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, and more.

How much time do I need to commit as an activities volunteer? 

We are looking for volunteers who can offer us at least two hour per week for at least six months.

What kind of support will I receive as an activities volunteer?  

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will match you with an older person, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.

  • Are aged 18 and over
  • Good organisation skills.
  • Good listening skills
  • The ability to engage yourself and others in a wide range of activities.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding of the needs of older people
  • Ability to keep records of visits made
  • Flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • A clear sense of personal boundaries and confidentiality
  • Able to provide non-judgemental support
  • Engage with training and development.
