As a volunteer driver, you will  take members to the meeting point of a walking group on Thursdays in Huddersfield HD1 4DT. You are welcome to join the group on the walk.

Skills and qualities needed for this role

  • Good communication skills
  • A current driving licence and your own car. 
  • An understanding of the needs of older people
  • You will be reliable and punctual
  • Flexibility
  • You’ll have a strong driving safety awareness
  • You’ll enjoy working with older people.

What training and support will be provided?

  • We will provide you with a full induction for the role
  • Ongoing support from a named contact
  • Out of pocket expenses in accordance with MHA’s Expenses Policy
  • Training and updating of skills and knowledge relevant to the role as appropriate
  • DBS Requirements - This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check as it involves 1-1 contact with Scheme members or care home residents.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer  driver?

You will need to be able to commit to volunteering once a week and be with us for at least six months or longer. We are looking for drivers who can commit to being a regular driver every Thursday.  

What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer driver?  

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator, who will monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.

Once you start at the scheme you will have the support of a named Community Coordinator. 
Travel expenses will be paid.

You can apply online by filling out a short application form.  You will also need to complete a DBS check and attend an induction training session before you start your role.    

Our Central Volunteering Team will guide you through the application and recruitment process and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
