As a Volunteer Minibus Driver, you will be responsible for the safety of the older people in your care.

You will collect the minibus from its secure location, pick up our members from their homes and take them to their activity.  Afterwards you will then drop them off at their homes and return the minibus to its location.

Skills and qualities needed for this role

  • Good communication skills
  • A current driving licence including entitlement to drive class of vehicle intended
  • An understanding of the needs of older people
  • You will be reliable and punctual

  • You’ll have a strong driving safety awareness
  • You’ll enjoy working with older people.

What training and support will be provided?

  • We will provide you with a full induction for the role
  • Ongoing support from a named contact
  • Out of pocket expenses in accordance with MHA’s Expenses Policy
  • MIDAS training
  • Training and updating of skills and knowledge relevant to the role as appropriate
  • DBS Requirements - This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check as it involves 1-1 contact with Scheme members or care home residents.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer minibus driver?

You will need to be able to commit to volunteering once a week and be with us for at least six months or longer. We are looking for minibus drivers on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at various times. 

What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer driver?  

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator, who will monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.

Once you start at the scheme you will have the support of a named Community Coordinator. 
Travel expenses will be paid.

You can apply online by filling out a short application form.  You will also need to complete a DBS check and attend an induction training session before you start your role.    

Our Central Volunteering Team will guide you through the application and recruitment process and be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
