The aim of social and activity groups is to help improve the quality of life older people who are socially isolated and may only get out to this activity.
Volunteers helping in our social groups assist with providing group members with the support they need to join in the activity, including working one to one with an older person to help them enjoy the activity, serve refreshments, and help people with activities. For example some weeks you might help a member enjoy a craft activity, or participate in a board game.
What are the social groups that MHA offers for older people?
MHA offers a variety of events and activities for older people in its care homes, retirement living, and community groups. These include arts and crafts, music, games, exercise, gardening, and more.
What are the benefits of becoming a social groups volunteer?
The aim of social and activity groups is to help improve the quality-of-life older people who are socially isolated and may only get out to this activity. Through supporting this activity, you'll help older people to connect with others, and help to improve their fitness and wellbeing. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
How much time do I need to commit as a social groups volunteer?
Generally, we ask for a minimum of 3 hours per week on a Wednesday or Friday for at least six months.
What kind of support will I receive as an social groups volunteer?
You will receive ongoing support and guidance from a local coordinator who will support you in your role, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
Travel expenses will be paid.
This is a rolling opportunity and all applicants will be contacted within two weeks time.
