For this very specific role we are looking for a volunteer to assist our residents to attend the local Catholic church each Sunday. You do not need to be Catholic, but we ask that you are respectful about all faiths and are happy to sit with the resident during the service and for some of the socialising afterwards before assisting them back to the care home. No driving is required.
As a Volunteer Befriender you will help improve the quality of life for older people who in our care home.

Befriending can help reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness, improve mental and physical health, increase confidence and self-esteem, and enhance the quality of life of older people. You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.
How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?
We ask that you are free most Sunday mornings from 10.30am to 12.0pm (approx) for a minimum of two hours per week for at least six months.
What kind of support will I receive as a volunteer?
You will receive ongoing support and guidance from the staff who will introduce you to an older person, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.

- Ability to keep records of visits made
- Flexible, reliable, and punctual
- A clear sense of personal boundaries and confidentiality
- Able to provide non-judgemental support
