As a Volunteer Befriender you will help improve the quality of life for older people who are socially isolated and may feel lonely. Our befrienders are introduced to an older person with the purpose of them spending an hour or two each visit to bring friendship, company, and a chance to chat.

About the Role

Volunteer Befrienders provide support and friendship to older people who may be feeling lonely or isolated.  Face-to-face befriending means you will be visiting an older person in the care home.

Benefits

Befriending can help reduce feelings of social isolation and loneliness, improve mental and physical health, increase confidence and self-esteem, and enhance the quality of life of older people.  You can also enrich your own life with new experiences and friendships. You will also gain valuable skills and knowledge that can enhance your personal and professional development.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

The advert details the days and times we're needing help at the moment.  There may be other opportunities to volunteer at other time in the future.

Generally, we ask for a minimum of one hour per week for at least six months.

What kind of support will I receive?

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from the Care Home team who will direct you, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
Travel expenses will be paid.
