Your role as a Volunteer Gardener will be to help the scheme maintain or devleop their garden space. Tasks may include tidying beds, weeding, lawn mowing and other gardening jobs as required.  You may also work with residents helping them to enjoy the schemes gardens eg utilising raised beds for planting.

How much time do I need to commit as a volunteer?

The advert details the days and times we're needing help at the moment.  There may be other opportunities to volunteer at other time in the future.  

Generally, we ask for a minimum of two hours per week for at least six months."

What kind of support will I receive?

You will receive ongoing support and guidance from the Care Home team who will direct you, monitor your progress, and provide feedback. You will also have access to online resources, training opportunities, and peer support from other volunteers.
Travel expenses will be paid.

About you

  • You will have some gardening knowledge and skills, although this can be basic
  • You will have good communication skills
  • We would love it if you came with experience of garden maintenance, but it's not essential
  • You will be able to be flexible
  • You'll have an awareness of older people in the community
  • You'll have a passion for people, and gardening
  • A commitment to health and safety within the volunteering environment
  • You will be able to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • A commitment to MHA's values and policies
